Assad airstrikes kill 15 civilians in Al Waer, Homs

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Syrian regime extended its intense aerial campaign against rebel-held neighborhood of al-Waer in Homs city on Tuesday, conducting a series of airstrikes that killed at least 15 people, activists said.

Abu al-Zein, local activist, reported suffocation cases among the victims due to toxic substances used by Bashar al-Assad’s forces in their attack on the embattled neighborhood.

Homs was once dubbed "the capital of the revolution" against Assad. Most of the city, except the battered district of al-Waer, has returned to regime control after two years of bombardment and siege.

Syria's war started with a pro-democracy movement that grew into an armed uprising and has inflamed regional confrontations. Some 200,000 people have died in the conflict, according to United Nations estimates.
