Opposition kills 45 regime soldiers across Syria

Opposition forces killed 45 Syrian regime soldiers across the country, according to Syrian rebels on Thursday.

A mine explosion killed 30 Syrian regime soldiers in Kasr Abo Samra village, located in eastern Hama city, west central Syria. The mines were previously planted by the Free Syrian Army according to the Syrian Revolution General Commission.

“The Free Syrian Army factions attacked many army security points and managed to seize a number of military vehicles. Regime forces suffered many causalities,” the commission said.

The Islamic Front killed 15 regime soldiers on Thursday in Aleppo, northwestern Syria, the Islamist opposition group told The Anadolu Agency.

The Islamic Front wrestled control of six military posts from the Syrian army.

“Factions from the Islamic Front attacked Assad’s forces through missile strikes and locally made projectiles in the Ardul Melah region,” the Islamic Front’s media spokesman told The Anadolu Agency’s reporter.

The Syrian Revolution General Commission represents a unified coalition of opposition groups that aim to establish a democratic system in Syria.

The Islamic Front is a coalition of a number of Islamist groups, including the Ahrar Al-Sham movement, and is an ally of the Al-Nusra Front, which itself has ties with Al-Qaeda.

Opposition forces began protests in March 2011 to topple President Bashar Al-Assad, a struggle that turned into a civil war in July of that year after regime forces violently suppressed the demonstrations.
