(Zaman Al Wasl)- Detainees of Homs Central Prison have begun on Saturday till they get their freedom, activists said.
Mature videos surfaced on the internet showed prisoners in the prison’s square shouting “we want to be out” and another showed bread’s bags and food pans put aside without touching them.
‘Ansar al-Thowra’ Facebook page published photos of some captions written by prisoners, one of them said: “I am sentenced of 31 years for demonstrating” and another mentioned: “I am accused and criminalized without seeing a judge” while a third said: “we don’t need courts, we are innocent” while another: “hunger strike is on till prison’s doors are opened”
There are more than 2000 prisoner in Homs’s prison while the old prison has between 3000 and 5000 prisoners, including 800 elderly and 100 women.
The prison witnessed in 2012 a sit-in, when some guards defected, and they clashed with others loyal to the Syrian regime”, then prisoners controlled the prison’s main square and some halls, but the order-keeping forces regained again by using fire and tear gas bombs. 4 prisoners were killed and many injured.
Prisoners are scared of repeating the same scenario with the open hunger strike.
