 Translation by Yusra Ahmed

(Zaman Al Wasl)- A huge demonstration gathered on Sunday in Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees in Damascus, to protest against the starving policy the Syrian regime practices against people by closing all crossing points to the camp.

Zaman al-Wasl correspondent reported that huge crowd of people gathered near the Youth Support Center responding to the calls of many civil bodies for demonstration, which then moved through the camp’s streets.

Almost all people from different backgrounds participated in the demonstration. Protesters demanded opening the barriers closed by the regime and other loyal Palestinian militias.

They shouted for the unity of Syrian and Palestinian fate and demanded a complete opening of the main road to the camp, they expressed their condemnation for the practices of blood traders who monopolize food and essential nutrients and deny them to people.

Ahmad Ghazawi, one of the participants in the demonstration said to Zaman al-Wasl that the humanitarian crossing points are rights to them, not a favor from anyone; he expressed his dissatisfaction with the “food baskets” which are distributed from time to time, but usually the distribution accompanied by shooting and injuries.

Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees suffers of humanitarian crisis, especially after closing the last crossing point in Babila, and preventing the United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestinian refugees “UNRWA” from distributing aid and food from time to time, which resulted in severe shortage of food and essential needs, led to many cases of death from hunger and cold.
