Rebels attack Islamic State's bases in Eastern Ghouta

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Rebels on Wednesday stormed bases of two factions affiliated to the Islamic State extremist group in the embattled Eastern Ghouta suburbs of Damascus, killing its commanders and arresting 50 militants, commander said.

Mohamed Abu kamal, Al-Rahman Legion spokesman, said his rebel group has raided bases of ‘Saraya al-Mukawama’ and ‘Fawj al-Sawarem’ groups in Ein Tarma and Jobar neighborhoods in a surprise attack.

Eastern Ghouta can be the only region in liberated areas with no foreign jihadists presence as most of fighters are locals, activists say.

Islamic State faced difficulties to have strongholdS around Damascus and in the south of Syria similar to ones it has in the east and north the war-torn country.

More than 220,000 people have been killed since the conflict in Syria erupted in March 2011.
