Head of reconciliation committee in Yalda escapes assassination attempt

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Head of reconciliation committee in Yalda town in Eastern Ghouta escaped an assassination attempt on Friday, Zaman al-Wasl reporter said.

Sheikh Saleh al-Khatib, who led reconciliation efforts with Syrian regime, escaped an explosive device planted near al-Saliheen mosque before the Friday Prayer.

Last week, Bashar al-Assad regime agreed to open Babbila crossing after fevered efforts to end 6 weeks of severed siege on towns of Babbila and Yalda south of the capital. Many rebels decline any truce with Assad and usually accuse mediators of betrayal who should be killed.

More than 220,000 people have been killed since the conflict in Syria erupted in March 2011.
