(Zaman Al Wasl)- Representatives of Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham movement were met in Idlib countryside on Monday over reconciliation efforts.
The dispute escalated when fighters of al-Qaeda’s Syria wing killed senior commander of Ahrar al-Sham in rebel-held town of Bennish in the northern countryside of Idlib.
Abu Muhammad al-Masri, Shariah officer of the
Ahrar al-Sham, said we might have differences with the Nusra but it’s
impossible to disagree on the holy testimony of “There is no God but Allah,
Muhammad is the Messenger of God,” in reference to the Muslims unity.
In his turn, Abu Hajer, Nusra’s representative, said, “We (Nusra) will protect you as you (Ahrar) will protect us from the treachery of the infidels.”
Idlib countryside was the first territory liberated from Syrian regime but very shortly Islamist factions have dominated the border province with Turkey.
Two months ago, the Nusra Front had expelled West-backed moderate rebel groups from Idlib.
More than 220,000 people have been killed since the conflict in Syria erupted in March 2011.
