Islam Army vows Assad new rocket attack on Damascus, Latakia

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Islam Army rebel group vowed on Sunday a new rocket attack on government-controlled areas in Damascus and Latakia cities in revenge for the killing of 200 civilians in Eastern Ghouta district by Syrian regime's fiercest aerial bombardment in a year, activists said.

According to statement posted online, Islam Army’s commander Zahran Alloush said after meeting with his senior commanders he will increase the number of the new round's rockets  to 1000.

Towns of Eastern Ghouta have been a clear target to the Syrian regime air force since last week. The war planes have carried out more than 300 strikes, killing 200 people and wounded more than one thousand, according to activists and monitoring groups.

Pro-Assad activists say the gruesome revenge of Eastern Ghouta suburbs is a response to 300-rocket attack by key Islamist group which killed 10 people last Thursday.

A message on a Twitter account belongs to Alloush said the attack was a "taste" of what the Syrian military had done to Ghouta.

He described Damascus as a "military zone" in a statement earlier this week and said his group would respond to Syrian air force strikes on Ghouta.

More than 220,000 people have been killed since the conflict in Syria erupted in March 2011.
