Ahrar al-Sham, Islam Army launch offensive on Shiite town in Idlib

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Ahrar al-Sham and Islam Army rebel groups on Monday have launched major offensive on Syrian regime’s supply route in Idlib countryside, military spokesman says.

The key Islamist groups waged early Monday a massive rocket attack on Deir Zughaib district near the Shiite-predominantly town of al-Fua’a, saying the area has become a strategic stronghold for Bashar al-Assad forces and aides Shiite militias in their unjust war against rebels, according to Islam Alloush, Islam Army’s spokesman.

Rebels seek also to surround al-Fua’a in order to roll back Assad' troops and Iranian militants through cutting off this vital route, Alloush added.

Idlib Shiite villages have been under severe siege by neighboring Sunni countryside, pro-regime activists said. The skirmishes have become a daily routine where Assad’s forces keep pledging to protect it whatever the cost.
