Coalition’s Khoja faces challenges may hinder inner-reform policy

Translation by Yusra Ahmed

(Zaman Al Wasl-Special)- The national coalition is witnessing new formation of a hidden bloc to face the new Chief of the Coalition, Khalid Khoja and his new decisions, starting with forwarding the decision of sacking the Coalition’s Ambassador to Qatar, Nizar al-Heraki to the General body for voting.

A well informed source reveals to Zaman al-Wasl that bloc consists of many figures of different political orientation, but still they have a united goal which is facing Khoja’s new wave of reforming.

The source explains that if the bloc managed to cancel Khoja’s decision in regard to al-Heraki, the Chief of the Coalition would resign, which would complicate the situation.

The source mentions that Qatari Government respects the Coalition’s decision in regard to al-Heraki’s sacking, and appointing any other alternative.

In regard to Khoja’s reforming strategy, the well informed source said that he has sacked some figures for their lagging in their duties like the Coalition’s representative in Egypt, the Minister of Finance, the minister of Energy and Mineral Treasury.

In regard to candidates nominated for the position of the Coalition’s Ambassador in Qatar, the source mentioned three names, Loay Safi, Lamya al-Hariri and Abdel-Latif Dabbagh.

Al-Hariri was the Head of the Diplomatic envoy to Cyprus, she was the first defected diplomat of the regime in 2012, her Husband Abdel latif Dabbagh, the Ambassador of the regime, followed her and defected next day.

Loay Safi, a Political researcher and a Professor in Indiana University, the founder member of the council of the House of Peace and Democracy, he has been well known in Geneva-2 negotiations.

Coalition’s members supporting the decision of sacking al-Heraki rely on a report published by members of the Coalition’s Embassy in Doha, in which they mentioned that Heraki had appointed his brother-in-law as a Consul, his friend Nasr Abo Nabot as the first Secretary, besides appointing Abel Qader al-Khatib, Brother of Moaz al-Khatib,the former Coalition’s Chief’s as the Manager of the Syrian School in Doha.

Other big mistakes al-Heraki committed was his visit to Russia with al-Khatib without consulting the Coalition, besides the crisis of renewing stickers for Syrian passports.

Qatar is one of the main supporters of Syrian revolution, the National Coalition and the Interim Government, it covers all expenses of the Coalition’s Embassy and Diplomats’ salaries.
