Activists say Syrian rebels have shot down an air force fighter jet in the east Ghouta of Damascus
Amateur video showed rebels inside the
operations room in Air defense base was affiliated to the Assad forces before
being under rebels's control. The rebels were sitting in front of Radar
screens, following the fighter jet movement before shooting it down by
Russian-made missile.
Activists considered that as remarkable
development, especially since all aircraft fell before were shot down by
shoulder-mounted missiles with short range.
According to information received from Syrian
Revolution Martyr Database, at least 5,840 people were killed in Damascus since
March 2011.
Syria's conflict began in March 2011 largely
as peaceful protests against Assad's rule. It escalated into a civil war after
opposition supporters took up arms to fight a brutal government crackdown on
dissent.
