The U.S. ambassador to South Korea was seriously injured Thursday morning in an attack by an armed assailant, according to local media.
National news agency Yonhap cited official sources as saying Mark Lippert was headed to a lecture in the center of the capital Seoul when he was assaulted, sustaining wounds that caused heavy bleeding.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The identity of the suspect, who was arrested immediately, remains unknown, according to the sources.
