About 8000 families in the rebel-held city of Erbin near Damascus have received food baskets distributed by the local council, activists said Friday.
The aid, which included basic food staples, came in response to a charity campaign to help thousands of locals and displaced families from neighboring suburbs.
Erbin is a rebel bastion east of Damascus, which has been under suffocating army siege for more than two years.
Syria's war has killed more than 220,000 people, and forced nearly half the population to flee their homes.
