National coalition forms committee to assess situation northeast Syria

The Syrian opposition’s National coalition has formed a committee of 8 members to assess the situation in the northeast of Syria and to set a plan endorsing the coexistence and tolerance between Syrian ingredients of Kurd , Arabs , Assyrians and other minorities.

Syria's eastern north has turned to a heated battleground between the Islamic State radical group and the Kurdish armed groups like People's Protection Units (YPG) and its allied Peshmerga group, in addition to the Syrian regime forces and moderate rebels.

Mission of the committee seems to be impossible since the Western-backed opposition group has no influence in area mostly controlled by IS. But the initiative can be a goodwill sign to bridge the gap between Syrian people, activists say.

The committee’s members are: Fouad Alico, Abdel Ahad Estifo, Yasser al-Farhan, Salah darwish, Salem al-Muslet, Nazir al-Hakim, Nasr al-Hariri and Mohamed Kudroli.

Syria's conflict, now in its fifth year, has killed more than 220,000 people and caused millions to flee.
