Blast kills 3 PYD fighters in Hasakah: activists

Islamic State fighters on Thursday detonated a car bomb in al-Mshairfa neighborhood in Hasakah city northeast Syria, killing 3 PYD fighters and wounding 4, local activists said.

Areas under control of Kurdish armed groups in Hasakah city have witnessed a series of explosions this week by ISIS, leaving dozens of casualties.

Syria's eastern north has turned to a heated battleground between the Islamic State radical group and the Kurdish armed groups like Democratic Union Party (PYD), People's Protection Units (YPG) and Peshmerga, in addition to the Syrian regime forces and moderate rebels.

The Kurdish militias, already a partner with Assad in the fight against ISIS, have shown grit fighting Islamic State but its potency will likely diminish beyond the Kurdish areas.

In relevant development, Syrian regime president Bashar al-Assad has appointed a new military commander in Hasakah over demands of his Kurdish allied militias.

Pro-regime news feeds said that al-Assad had dismissed General Mohamed Khadour over bloody clashes two months ago between PYD and Syrian regime army in Hasakah.

Hassan Mohamed, the new commander, was the vice commander of 17 Division near al-Raqqa. Reports also said that regime has also appointed a new commander for National Defense Militia in the strategic city.

Two days ago, the Syrian opposition’s National coalition has formed a committee of 8 members to assess the situation in the northeast of Syria and to set a plan endorsing the coexistence and tolerance between Syrian ingredients of Kurd , Arabs , Assyrians and other minorities.

Mission of the committee seems to be impossible since the Western-backed opposition group has no influence in area mostly controlled by IS. But the initiative can be a goodwill sign to bridge the gap between Syrian people, activists say.

Syria's conflict, now in its fifth year, has killed more than 220,000 people and caused millions to flee.
