Clashes between the Islamic State and the Democratic Union Party (PYD) still underway since Wednesdsy near the town of Tal-Tamer in the northern province of Hasakah, activists said.
Key Kurdish militia PYD has made gains in the town of Tal-Brak in the Eastern countryside, sources said.
Malaz Yusuf, director of Hasakah Media Center, told Zaman al-Wasl that clashes have started when PYD fighters tried to advance toward ISIS strongholds in villages of Tal-Hafian and Tal-Nasri in the Southern entrance of the town of Tal-Tamer in Hasaka’s countryside, which resulted in killing and wounding many fighters from both sides, he mentioned that clashes were still on till the time of the report.
On the other side, Yusuf mentioned that regime’s warplanes launched many raids on ISIS’s sites in both villages, in the same time, PYD took the chance of cutting off supplies for the Islamic state because of Khabour river’s flooding at the Western parts of Tal-Tamer before withdrawing and expanding the clashes to northern and Western part of the town.
The activist mentioned that most people have left the two Assyrian villages after the clashes between the two sides which started a month and a half ago.
On the other side, PYD confirmed killing 10 fighters of the Islamic State in an operation took place in Tal Barak and Alhol in the Eastern countryside of Hasaka.
Activist Mahmood al-Ahmad reported that warplanes of US-led alliance have supported PYD in its battles against the Islamic State in Eastern Countryside of Hasaka, while the party continued arresting youths to recruit them in their fight with ISIS.
According to the activist, the Islamic State on Wednesday morning attacked bases of the Syrian regime in villages of Bab-Alkhair and Aldawoodiyeh Southern Hasakah resulting in fighting between the two sides and killing one fighter from the Islamic State and two members of Syrian regime’s forces.
Clashes in Hasakah started in 21st February when PYD attacked bases of the Islamic State in Tal-Hamis and Tal-Barak, leading the Islamic State to reply in attacking the town of Tal-Tamer in the western countryside.
Hasakah province in the Northeast corner of Syria is one of three areas where the Syrian Kurds have set up their own government since 2012, when the Syrian regime voluntarily withdrew from the province, leaving PYD and its militias to practice control without annoying, Moreover, the province is strategically important in the fight against Islamic State because it borders areas controlled by the group in Iraq.
