Assad forces press hard to recapture Idlib, rebels resist

Fatah Army on Friday has thwarted an attack launched by Syrian forces on Idlib to recapture the city that fell out three weeks ago.

Bashar al-Assad's forces pressed slow advances northwest of Idlib by taking control of Nahliya and Kafr Najed villages near Ariha city in an effort to protect a supply route links between Idlib and Shiite villages of Fua'a and Kafriya, Zaman al-Wasl reporter said as the clashes are still underway near Mastumah and al-Qaeda villages near Idlib.

ِAby Mustafa, military commander of Fajer al-Islam brigade, said Assad's forces have been following 'scorched earth policy', due to the daily ground and aerial shelling, but till now Fatah Army has repelled most of Army's attacks and has killed dozens, he added

The humiliating defeats of Syrian forces inflicted by an alliance of Islamist groups including al-Qaeda's Syria wing the Nusra Front, reflected in a hysterical bombardment on the captured the city and neighboring villages.
Activists and monitoring groups have documented more than 130 people killed in 20 days.

Meanwhile, civil society and Fatah Army commanders have worked to gain back the normal life of the captured Idlib. But the daily bombardment pushed thousands of people to flee the city.
