Key rebel groups including al-Qaeda's Syria wing, the Nusra Front, have made strategic gains on Wednesday near captured city of Idlib, taking control of al-Qarmeed camp and pressing advances to capture Jisr al-Shughour city near the coastal Latakia province, according to activists.
Fatah Army, an alliance of Islamist groups operating in Idlib province, have inflicted humiliating defeats on Bashar al-Assad's forces and his allied Shiite militias, pushing them to retreat from their checkpoints in Qarmeed camp.
The gains of Islamist rebels came after 3 weeks since they had captured Idlib city. Fatah Army includes Nusra Front, Jund al-Aqsa, Jaish al-Sunnah, al-Sham Legion and Suqour al-Sham.
Meanwhile, rebels of Hama province have also declared an offensive to capture vast Sahl al-Ghab territory in Hama province.
