Leishmaniasis spreads among Assad soldiers east Homs

Translation by Yusra Ahmed

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Leishmaniasis, or “Aleppo boil”, has spread among the regime's soldiers and other militias  in the eastern countryside of central Homs province, the outskirts of Palmyra city and the center.

The spread of the disease among a large number of regime’s soldiers and militias, caused disruption and chaos among commanders because transferring that number of patients soldiers to the military hospital could lead to weakening Palmyra's front.

As a response to these new conditions, many regime’s loyalists have launched appeals to the Syrian regime to provide treatment in field instead of referring them to hospitals. Appealed for experts in treating the disease to volunteer to stay around the patients

Loyalists also launched appeals to cover the pharmacological deficit in Palmyra's front and provide medicine, serums, needles, catheters, analgesics, and others, which can be an indication to the size of injuries and disease affect the soldiers and other militias.

Leishmaniasis is a disease caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Leishmania and spread by the bite of certain types of sandflies. The disease can present in three main ways: cutaneous, mucocutaneous, or visceral leishmaniasis. The cutaneous form presents with skin ulcers, while the mucocutaneous form presents with ulcers of the skin, mouth, and nose, and the visceral form starts with skin ulcers and then later presents with fever, low red blood cells, and enlarged spleen and liver.

Syria is among the top four countries in the world by the spread of Leishmaniasis.
