Russian air strikes kill 43 people in Idlib city: activists

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Russian air strikes on northern Idlib city have killed 43 people, rescue workers and residents said on Sunday.

They said at least six strikes had hit a busy market place in the heart of the city, several government buildings and residential areas. Rescue workers said they had confirmed 43 dead but that at least 30 more bodies had been retrieved that had still to be identified. Over 150 people were wounded with some of the serious cases sent to hospitals in Turkey, Reuters reported.

"There are a lot of corpses under the rubble," Yasser Hammo, a civil defense worker, told Reuters, adding that volunteers and civil defense workers were still pulling bodies out.

Since early Sunday, Regime warplanes backed by Russia's jets have stepped up its devastating attacks on Idlib and Aleppo provinces.

According to the Syrian Network, Russian air force in Syria, which consists of around 50 planes and helicopters with a further 37 aircraft, has killed at least 570 civilians, including 152 children and 60 women, since air strikes began in Sep.30.

On Saturday, President Vladimir Putin said the Russian armed forces have not employed all their capability in Syria and may use "more military means" there if necessary.

"We see how efficiently our pilots and intelligence agents coordinate their efforts with various kinds of forces – the army, navy and aviation, how they use the most modern weapons," Putin was quoted as saying in a speech, according to Reuters.

Meanwhile, activists have been circulated by activists a photo for what is called the deadly green landmine, which highly manufactured in the Soviet Union era, saying its being used in the Russian aerial campaign on Syrian people.
