(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime forces and Russian warplanes have renewed the aerial and ground attacks on the Turkmen-dominated village of Harbanfaseh town in Hama province, residents said Friday.
Russia warplanes conducted at least 20 raids on rebel-held areas in Homs and Hama in the past 24 hours, activists said as the regime army seeks to cut rebels' supply routes.
Russian raids have targeted towns of al-Halmouz, Talbiseh, al-Makramiya, al-Zaafarana and Teir Maala., killing 7 civilians from Talbiseh and al-Halmouz towns, according to the Syrian Network For Human Rights.
Dominant Ahrar al-Sham movement said Friday its fighters have blown up al-Bashakir factory near Harbanafseh as regime army and allied NDF militants press to capture the factory and nearby territory.
The military offensive has cut off 120,000 people in the northern Homs since mid-January, worsening hunger and killing patients unable to get to medical care, a U.N. report said.
"There are reports of increasingly acute shortages of food, basic commodities, medical items and fuel in the area. With the irregular supply routes used until mid-January now cut off, food items that are still available are now being sold at much higher prices," said the report by the U.N. humanitarian office.
In eastern Homs, most people of the pro-regime have been displaced due to the ISIS repeated shelling, sources told Zaman al-Wasl.
Since the hardline group seized control of two thirds of Syrian desert mid 2015, thousands of the Alawite-dominated villages of Makser al-Hosan, Jeb al-Jarrah, Om al-Serj, Abu Khashaba, and al-Masoudiya have fled their homes, escaping mortar rounds and grad missiles, local activists said.
Meanwhile, United Nations envoy Staffan de Mistura said Thursday that resuming Syrian peace talks on the scheduled date of Feb. 25 is not a realistic option.
"I cannot realistically send out invitiations to new talks in Geneva on Feb 25, but we intend to do so soon," daily Svenska Dagbladet quoted him as saying.
"We need 10 days' preparation. But the talks ... can be successful if emergency aid continues and we get a ceasefire."
International powers agreed to try to bring about a "cessation of hostilities" in Syria's five-year civil war this week. Russia said it hopes a ceasefire can be agreed on Friday, when Russian and U.S. military officials are due to meet.
