(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian and Russian warplanes have carried out at least 30 raids on the northern countryside of Homs province, targeting rebel-held areas by internationally banned bombs, activists said Thursday, 48 hours before the provisional planned ceasefire takes into effect.
An Ahrar al-Sham commander told Zaman al-Wals that regime army backed by Russian jets had stepped up attacks on Homs and Hama provinces. An offensive which never stopped since 45 days, he added.
The military offensive on northern Homs has cut off 120,000 people in the northern Homs since mid-January, worsening hunger and killing patients unable to get to medical care, a U.N. report said.
The aerial bombing has also renewed on the Turkmen-dominated village of Harbanfaseh town in Hama, residents said.
The regime said on Tuesday it accepted a halt to "combat operations" that does not include the Islamic State group, the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, or groups connected to it, in line with a U.S.-Russian plan.
It said it would coordinate with Russia to decide which groups and areas would be included in the "cessation of hostilities" plan which is due to take effect on Saturday according to the U.S.-Russian plan.
Activists said the ceasefire is skeptical. the Bashar al-Assad forces will not stop shelling.
The Assad military says it reserves the right to "respond to any breach by these groups against Syrian citizens or against its armed forces.
Also in Homs, Al-Assad dismissed on Wednesday General. Yasin Dhah, the head of military intelligence, appointing the war-crime perpetrator Hassan Dabool instead after an ISIS double car bombings killed about 60 people on Sunday.
Dabool was the head of the notorious Branch 215, one of the most brutal security services in Syrian where more than 11,000 detainees were tortured to death between 2011and 2013.
Dabool's new post has a lot of messages that al-Assad seeks o deliver to the frustrated supporters in the Alawite-dominated district of al-Zahraa.
In Aleppo province, SANA news agency said the army took the town of Khanaser on Thursday, after three days of heavy battles with the extremist group, AP reported.
