(Zaman Al Wasl)- Activists on Sunday have circulated on the social media a video showing prisoners on the central prison of Homs protesting against the regime’s attempt to release 200 prisoners to join the paramilitary National Defense Forces in its battles with the Islamic State.

The video has been broadcasted on SMART news agency, showed a dark place, while shouts and sounds supporting the Free Syrian Army coming loud.

A prisoner talked to Zaman Al Wasl on condition of Anonymity on phone revealed that the prison’s manager had asked from a drug-crime prisoner to register the names of prisoners who were willing to be freed on condition to join a voluntary brigade of the National Defense Forces, to fight in the Eastern countryside front near Furoqlus.

The speaker revealed that the prisoner had registered almost 100 names of criminal of different crimes and offenses without taking their crimes or period of imprisonment in account.

The source mentioned that prisoners had got angry with the manager of prison and the task-prisoner and torn off the paper and formed an obstinacy condition which forced the prison’s administration to cancel the idea.

The speaker explained that volunteer prisoners were supposed to be sent to the frontlines with the Islamic State and behind them would be brigades of regime’s loyal officers to supervise them and punish or kill who thinks of running away.

the regime has chosen to form the brigade of volunteers to fight the Islamic State only a day after cessation of Hostility agreement in Syria.

The central prison of Homs hosts between 3000 and 5000 prisoners, 800 of them elderly and 100 women. There are almost 750 detainees supportive of the revolution, most of them have not been judged or stood before court for years.

The creation of the NDF was personally overseen by Iranian Quds Corps commander Qasem Suleimani. Syrian security officials admitted that they received assistance from Iran and Hezbollah.

NDF count about 100,000 fighters, directly fighting against rebels on ground and run operations in coordination with the army which provides them logistical and artillery support.

NDF units mostly operate in their local areas, although members can also choose to take part in army operations in other places, while others claimed that the NDF does most of the fighting because they know their local areas and regions.
