US-led Kurdish forces cut off main road to rebel-held Aleppo city

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces cut off the main road to rebel-held areas in northern Aleppo city, local reporter said Wednesday.

Zaman al-Wasl reporter said the YPG-led units that formed by the U.S. last October, have captured the strategic Castillo road, a move tightens the noose on half million people and bolstering regime's plan to blocked rebels.

In its turn, SDF leadership said at least 216 Nusra Front fighters were killed in the two-week fighting in the northern countryside of Aleppo, ARA News reported.

“The recent clashes centered in the villages of Malikiya, Kashtaar and Tannab in the suburb of Azaz near the Turkish border,” SDF spokesman told ARA News.

“After expelling the al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front from these villages, our forces collected dead bodies of 216 militants and detained over 20 others,” the official said.

The SDF has also seized a large deal of ammunition and heavy weapons after taking over a weapons storage center near Azaz.

Supported by an air cover from the U.S.-led coalition, SDF regained control of large territories in northern Aleppo, including the villages of Shwargha, Maranaz, Mennagh, Kafr Nasih, Kafr Naya, and the towns of Ain Daqna, Tal Rafaat and Deir Jamal.

The SDF advances came as the 'cessation of hostilities' truce deal enters its fifth day with more that 145 violation recorded and tens of people killed, according to the Syrian Network of Human Rights.
