FSA fighters take al-Tanf border crossing from ISIS

(Zaman Al Wasl)- A Free Syrian Army unit on Friday seized control of al-Tanf border crossing between Syria and Iraq from the Islamic State that was in its control since May 2015, media activists said.

The Battalions of Martyr Ahmed al Abdo said it had taken the crossing, about 150 miles (220 km) east of Damascus, after fierce fighting with ISIS.

FSA's strategic gain may push rebels to encircle ISIS fighters who control the nearby areas of al-Kabed, Sabe' Biar, Beer al-Qasab and a territory surrounds the desert town of Dumeir on the enclaves of Eastern Ghouta suburbs.

Al-Abdo Battalions have also seized an ISIS depot contains tens of explosive devices and weapons near the crossing, its media office reported.

Last may, ISIS seized the last Syrian regime-controlled border crossing between Syria and Iraq, after the group's takeover of the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra.
