ISIS takes vast ground from regime, rebels in Aleppo province

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Islamic State fighters took at least 11 villages from regime army and rebel factions in northern Aleppo province, activists said Saturday.

Activist Omar al-Shamali told Zaman al-Wasl that Isis had taken villages of Tel Shaeer, Bragheed and Qasajek in the northern countryside from Free Syrian Army and Islamist rebels.

Field sources said rebels had retreated from territory they captured early this week from Isis.

In the eastern countryside, Isis have launched a surprise attack on regime's posts in Draihim field and neighboring hilltops, killing and wounding dozens, ISIS-run news agency said.

The ultra-hardline group cut two days ago a strategic supply route near Khanaser town southeast of Aleppo that links regime army bastions with Hama province.

Aamaq agency and activist said that Isis had seized control of  8 villages as regime retreated despite the Russia's air covert.

On Friday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 210 combatants have died in Aleppo clashes.

Among those killed from Sunday to Thursday were 82 army troops and pro-government militiamen, 94 members of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Nusra Front and allied rebel groups, and 34 ISIS extremists,

The spike in violence, which has threatened to derail a shaky truce, has seen multiple fronts around Syria's second city flare up as a new round of peace talks got under way in Geneva.

The heaviest casualties came near Al-Eis in the south of Aleppo province where 50 government troops and loyalist militia fighters were killed along with 61 Al-Nusra and allied fighters, the Observatory said.

Isis attacks have forced at least 30,000 Syrians sought refuge near the Turkish border, according to Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) officials.
