Regime tightens noose on Al Waer neighborhood in Homs despite truce deal

(Zaman Al Wasl TV)- Al-Waer neighborhood, last rebel stronghold in central city of Homs, is witnessing a tough siege imposed by the regime forces on the entry of flour which threats to exacerbate the starvation crisis and create a humanitarian disaster.

Last December, the U.N. had brokered a truce deal in al-Waer that stated  lift of the siege and prisoners release as hundreds of rebels evacuated al-Waer heading the northern countryside of Homs.

The neighborhood suffers from cuts in electricity, water, medicine, and food until even a loaf of bread has become a dream accompanying children in their sleep.

The people of al-Waer, whose population is over 100 thousand, are forced to fight hunger by making bread from rice, lentils, chickpeas, and beans after the complete cut off of flour, which has led to the aggravation of instances of malnutrition and dehydration amongst children, and there are no other options before the only remaining bakery in the neighborhood to improve the quality.

The difficulties of continuing to keep the wheels of life going in al-Waer has not been hidden from the eyes of the International Community or the United Nations, as the neighborhood’s people’s pleas are being broadcasted on media networks on a daily basis.

Despite the limited and shy response from humanitarian organizations in their attempt to get trucks of food aid filled with flour into the neighborhood expect that the regime checkpoints completely refuse to allow them in which warns of a new humanitarian crisis that might destroy the besieged civilians.
