(Zaman al-Wasl)- A woman was burned in Palmyra city by Iraqi shiite militias fighting in support of Bashar al-Assad, sources told Zaman al-Wasl.
Sources said that whoever returned to Palmyra returned under pressure of hard conditions of displacement or under threat clarfiying that the woman victim Fauziye Mahmoud Darwish, 50, was forced by difficult conditions of displacement to return to her city although many houses of those who returned are either destroyed or robbed.
The city lack the least condition of living of water and power in addition to abuse of mercenaries from every side.
The unamrried woman could not cope with displacement and so she chose to return to Palmyra and went to her home in al-Awsat neighborhood. It should be noted the motive of those who returned to Palmyra were economic since the rent of one room reached 50000 SP in regime-controlled areas which cannot be afforded by many Syrians.
The sources explained that the humiliation of displacement along with regime reassurance especially governor of Homs led many seniors to return especially that most youth in Palmyra are wanted by the regime and that’s why Fauziye returned home alone preferring to live in need in her home instead of asking people to provide for her.
Zaman al-Wasl’s sources pointed out that spheres of influence in Palmyra are distributed between the militias coming from Iraq controlling al-Awsat and al-Sharqi neighborhoods, the militias coming from Afghanistan controlling the west and northern residential complexes while Russians control the historical cities where ruins and treasures of Palmyra are. The regime presence is limited to intelligence personnel who rob what is left of private property.
The sources continued that few days ago, the sectarian militias coming from Iraq burned some houses under their control during their criminal operation, they drop a white powder in the house to burn it fast before it becomes ashes to stop it from being a livable house.
The sources clarified what happened to the victim Fauziye saying that on last Tuesday the sectarian militias started to burn some houses in al-Awsat neighborhoods. She saw the militias coming to her house and since she was alone and no body lives with her, she went to the basement. When the mercenaries arrived there, they threw the white powder inside the house and started the fire, the victim felt the flames and called for help when the mercenaries responded with laughs and sectarian cursing against her and against the people of Palmyra.
The neighbors nearby rushed to see the woman screaming and tried hard to put out the fire since there is only little water in their houses, but the catastrophe was more than they could do especially the fire was started by a chemical material that cannot be stopped easily.
As they were helpless by their sadness for the plight of the woman and the inability to stop the fire, the neighbors went through very difficult moments before the fire stopped and they could take the burned woman from under the rubble.
Our sources confirmed the sectarian militias tried to say they did not know the victim was in the house before the set the fire. But the constant is that these gangs knew the woman was there and intended to burn her alive.
The victim had gone more than once to the mercenaries to ask them about her things in the house and who stolen it, they responded to her angrily and they threatened to kill her if she asked again. They then executed their threat in front of every one.
Our sources indicated the lack of water in Palmyra is only for the civilians whereas the militias have water and firefighting devices but they did not use it for the woman who was burning in front of them as they were bragging about their deed as a valid punishment for the “terrorists” according to their beliefs.
The private sources revealed about what they called a strange paradox saying the sectarian militias do not treat people the same in Palmyra. The militias coming from Afghanistan do not target the locals or harm them contrary to the militias coming from Iraq which is barbaric and bloody in its sectarian behavior towards the locals.
The sources reconfirmed that most of who returned to Palmyra are seniors in addition to a small group who returned under threat. Those are employees in service sector whom regime and its mercenaries need to work in the water and power sectors.
In addition to that, the minister of education in regime government released a decision to prevent any student from Palmyra to study outside the city under threat of final firing from school.
The decision aims to force as many families as possible to return to Palmyra and to show that it is a voluntarily return to a normal life according to the well-known scenario of regime in each and every area it destroys and forcibly displace its population.
Despite all regime attempts to force people to return, the families who returned to Palmyra are estimated to be 150 families according to our sources. (Translation by Rana Abdul)
