Looting mounts in regime-held Aleppo, people complain

Reporting by Mustafa Mohamed

(Zaman Al Wasl)- A State of anger is prevailing in the regime-controlled areas of the Western side of Aleppo city due to the increase cases of looting empty houses after leaving them by their owners, especially those near front lines, by member of the Popular committees or what so called “Shabiha.

Looting incidents have increased recently in many areas of Aleppo like Mashrooa 606, Fourth Hamadaniyah neighbourhood, which led to a state of popular anger with a state of desperation led people to request issuing Sharea Orders to prevent selling and buying products exhibited by Shabiha in streets.

Dr. Kamal Jafa, a regime-loyalist economist called religious figures via his facebook page to issue order preventing buying or obtaining stolen products.
Media activist Harith Abdul-Haq found that no need for such religiously supported orders or prevent stealing and trading stolen products as long as there is a law criminalising stealing and thieves and buyers.

Abdul-Haq explain to Eqtsad that regime allows its “Shabiha” to loot and steal people's houses, in the same time it allow other people to issue such statement like asking for religiously-supported order to prevent stealing in order to obtain support of both sides. “But it does not mean that Shabiha’s acts have reached beyond people’s ability to tolerate and cause public stress”.

It seems that jafa’s call has found some support, as the Imam of al-Abara mosque in Aleppo had mentioned the matter in his latest Friday’s pray and explained that trading either selling or buying stolen products, like those exhibited in streets, are banned according to Islam rules.

Ibrahim Ismael, a leader of on of the Popular committees has declared his opinion in the stolen products, as he considered then as “war prizes” for people from the coast who defend Aleppo, while its own people are enjoying their time in resorts and sea shores, which casue aa state of anger among Aleppo's people.
