(Zaman Al Wasl)- Iranian media outlets revealed Sunday evening of the death of major Murtada Etiyya, the high commander of the Fatemiyoun militia fighting in Syria alongside the al-Assad regime. Attai is considered the most important assistant to General Qasem Soleimani the commander of the militia and mercenaries of the sectarian Quds force.
According to the Iranian Naser television channel and website, Murtada Etiyya, nicknamed Abu Ali, was killed in fierce battles with the resistance factions in the mountains of Latakia in the west of the country, adding that Etiyya is one of the founders of the Fatemiyoun militia and one of its oldest leaders as well as being assigned by Soleimani.
Syrian resistance factions had dispelled an attempt by regime forces and its sectarian militias to attack the Kabana, al-Tofahiya, and al-Khader in Jabal al-Akrad in Latakia countryside. Resistance fighters killed tens of militia members including the field commander for the group Zain al-Abidin commander (Zakariya Solaiman) subordinate to Soqor al-Sahra militia and members of other militias.
Fatemiyoun militia is considered one of the biggest companies fighting in Syria and they are estimated to number at around 25 thousand mercenaries formed mainly by Afghani Shia referred to as Hazara in Iran. The militia was established
by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in 2011 with the start of the Syrian revolution.
