Discords between regime and Kurdish militias threaten education institutes in Hasaka


(Zaman Al Wasl)- Furat University Administration in Hasaka city said Wednesday it will resume work in its faculties in the city after reaching an agreement with Kurdish Asayish and YPG militias.

The aim of the agreement is to neutralize faculties from any fights between them and regime forces and its militia.

The Administrative Committee for Civil Engineering Faculty in Hasaka confirmed they will resume starting on Wednesday according to its Facebook page.

In a previous time, it said, “students fate is on the verge of collapse” after it published an ad informing students that studies are suspended in Civil Engineering Faculty on Tuesday whereas clerks in Faculty of Law have been going on to their work since the faculty is located in the area under regime forces control in Hasaka.

Al-Khaber TV, close to Assad regime, reported that Furat University branch in Hasaka Manager Najm al-Hamidi saying, “the agreement between representative of Asayish and YPG was attended by Hasaka governor to naturalize Furat University faculties of any political and military problems.”

On his part, activist Mahmoud al-Ahmad told Zaman al-Wasl that students of faculty of humanities in al-Nashweh neighborhood protested university suspension in their faculty yesterday and crossed al-Nashweh bridge coming from the closed faculty towards the security square near Faculty of Law. They demanded to solve the problem of more than 40000 students enrolled in Furat University in Hasaka. The meeting between Assad regime leadership and PYD with the university administration led to agreement to neutralize university from any disputes between the two parties.

He pointed out that shutting down al-Manahel school affiliated with al-Bir and Social services organization subordinate to regime ministry of social affairs because Asayish personnel entered the school and demanded shut down of school that uses regime curricula and change it with Kurdish curricula. School administration asked 1800 pupils enrolled not to return to school until they inform them otherwise.

A group from Asayish militia had stormed end of last month Dajleh Private Primary School subordinate to Assyrian Orthodox Church in al-Malkiye city and exited students by force from the school amid panic among the students which led to a jangle between the armed group and families who opposed their raid.

The regime and Kurdish militias fighting in Hasaka try to impose their curricula to raise children to their ideology. PYD tried to force Kurdish curricula on schools located in its controlled areas whereas regime continues to teach the curricula issued by regime ministry of education in Hasaka, Qamishli and other neighboring villages.
