Five people, including children, killed in ISIS landmines near Qamishli

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Five people among them children died due to the detonation of improvised explosive devices left behind in the fighting between the Islamic State forces and the Democratic Union Party in the town of Tel Hamis, south of Qamishli city.

The activist Ahmad al-Ali reported that an explosive device detonated close to al-Saadiyeh village located between the town of Tel Hamis and al-Qamishli city injuring and killing several people including one child.

The activist told Zaman al-Wasl that a member of one of the Democratic Union Party militias and a child died after the motorcycle they were riding drove over an explosive device close to the village of Marjan in Tel Hamis district.

The Asayish militia, the security wing of the Democratic Union Party, mentioned in its statement that “Two civilians driving a motorcycle were killed after they drove over an improvised explosive device.”

Also in Hasaka, a man from the village of Moushrifieh Jarrah south of al-Qahtaniyah district committed suicide after the Democratic Union Party militias arrested one of his sisters during the storm and arrest operations the militias conducted in the villages of al-Joulah in recent days.

The Asayish militia, Society Protection militia, Military Intelligence, and the HAT (anti-terror forces subordinate to Asayish) usually participate in these storm operations. They arrested tens of civilians among them women from the villages of Tel Tahin and Khouliyat Joulah south of the town of al-Qahtaniya in the past three days.

This is not the first instance armed groups subordinate to the Democratic Union Party conduct such operations. They stormed several houses in the village of Moujibir and Dardaret east of the city of Ras al-Ayn in northern al-Hasakah during the Eid al-Fitr holiday in July 2016. In that operation, they arrested four women from pro-revolution families and families who have members fighting with the Free Syrian Army which controlled the area in the period before the end of 2013.g
