(Zaman Al Wasl)- Turkis authorites opened a new branch of the Turkish Post Office (PTT) in al-Bab city, east of Aleppo, such a step marks more Turkish influence in opposition-held areas.
According to Turkish media, PTT branch - the second branch in Syria - began to provide banking services and communications to meet the needs of many Syrian citizens in the region, which was suffering from a significant shortage of communications and banks due to lack of stability.
Media activist Khalifa al-Khoder who lives in al-Bab considered that, “The opening of PTT branch inside Syria is a positive step that saves money for Syrians who work inside Turkey and have relatives and people inside Syria and send them money transfers monthly.”
Al-Khoder pointed out that the senders will be satisfied and assured because they will send their money and materials through a governmental party that has a history and good reputation. This has been absent as people retrieved to illegal cargo companies and money transfer offices which used to impose high fees with no guarantees.
In turn, photographer and media activist Milad Shehabi, a resident of the al-Bab, expressed his displeasure that PTT branch used the building of the cultural center in the city, considering that the center should have been restored to serve the population of the city whose number exceeds 150,000.
Shehabi indicated that "the Turkish intervention in the cities and towns have become unacceptable, adding that the Turks prevent any development institution from working in those areas without providing any papers or justifications. He considered that this is reflected negatively on the living conditions and development there.
At the same time, Shehabi confirmed that the opening of PTT branch in al-Bab is a positive step that saves people money especially in light of closure of border crossing between Syria and Turkey."
It is noteworthy that the PTT is a state company official express mail, 174 years old, opened about two months ago its first branch inside Syria in Jarablus city, northeast of Aleppo.
