Head
of legal committee in key Syrian opposition said that the National Coalition
have filed a lawsuit against Syrian regime president Bashar al-Assad to The
International Criminal Court in The Hague.
Mr.
Haytham al-Maleh said to Zaman Alwasl the report which has been submitted to ICC, took 1 year
of preparation, it documented most war crimes committed by the regime.
The
veteran dissident also pointed out added that the coalition intends to
prosecute the Assad regime over its financial transaction including fraud,
money laundering and frozen money in the European banks, "this money belongs to Syrian people,''
he said, expecting to win this lawsuit.
The
International Criminal Court is a permanent tribunal to prosecute individuals
for genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression.
Days
ago, a horrific new report accused Syria's embattled regime of torturing and
killing thousands of detainees in government custody.
The
report, first revealed by CNN and the Guardian in an exclusive on Monday,
alleging systematic "crimes against humanity" being committed against
prisoners in Syrian jails.
Syria's
armed uprising began as a series of peaceful democracy protests 34 months ago
but escalated into a full-blown civil war after Assad's regime launched a
brutal crackdown on dissent.
The
conflict is estimated to have killed around 200,000 people and displaced
millions more.
