Nadal beats Nishikori in Monte Carlo and lifts record 31st Masters 1000 trophy
Rafa Nadal continued his fine form to beat Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-2 in the Monte Carlo final and has still not dropped a set since the quarter finals in Rome last year.He has won his last 36 sets and now has a record 31 Masters 1000 titles after his latest victory on Sunday in Monte Carlo, one of his favourite tournaments.

Nishikori knew his chance of success depended on a good start as he had played a game more than Nadal during the week and clocked up five hours more match time.

He managed to break Nadal in the third game and was helped by two unforced errors but he was not able to hold onto the advantage with the Spaniard bouncing back immediately and stormed to a 5-2 lead before winning the set.In the following set, Nishikori lost his serve again in the third game and from there Nadal eased to his 31st Masters 1000 win, one more than Novak Djokovic.
