A highly informed official source told *Zaman Al-Wasl* that the General Secretariat of the Presidency, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance, has circulated a set of measures to state institutions aimed at controlling and rationalizing spending.
According to the source, these measures include postponing non-urgent maintenance and improvement work—such as office renovations and interior decorating—and halting the purchase or replacement of furniture and office equipment, except in cases of necessity.
The measures also entail eliminating non-essential expenses or reducing them to a minimum, and cutting fuel allocations (gasoline and diesel) for government vehicles and machinery by 30%—with exceptions for allocations not exceeding 70 liters per month and for mass transit vehicles.
Furthermore, the directives prohibit entering into new lease agreements or renewing existing ones if a state-owned alternative is available, and call for reducing reliance on external studies and consultancy services that could be carried out by government personnel.
The directives also cover the suspension of spending on conferences, celebrations, hospitality, printed materials, stationery, subscriptions, and non-essential mobile phone credit, as well as a halt to the purchase or replacement of vehicles and machinery intended for administrative use.
According to the source, a decision was also made to suspend travel, official assignments, and domestic or foreign missions, and to restrict the use of government vehicles to necessary cases, subject to prior approval from the relevant minister.
