Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for one game after his red card against Valencia in the opening game of the Champions League 2018/19 at the Mestalla. The Portuguese was shown a straight red for appearing to grab the head of defender Jeison Murillo in the first half of Juventus' eventual 2-0 victory over the LaLiga side.

UEFA announced on their website that: "The CEDB has decided to suspend the Juventus Football Club player Cristiano Ronaldo for one (1) UEFA competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible."

It means Ronaldo will be eligible to play against his former club, Manchester United, in both home and away games. He played against the Red Devils three times since leaving Old Trafford in 2009 for Madrid. Two of those games came in the 2012-13 Champions League last 16 tie when Real Madrid won 3-1 on aggregate with the Portuguese scoring in both legs. He also played for seven minutes in the European Super Cup in 2017, which Real Madrid also won 2-1.
