Syria’s parliament repeals law allowing Education Ministry to seize property

Damascus, Oct. 21 (SANA) The People’s Assembly has repealed a law that authorized the education minister to order the seizure of properties deemed necessary for the Ministry of Education’s work, concluding the first session of its first regular term, according to a statement posted on the Assembly’s Telegram channel.

The statement, published on Tuesday, said the Assembly repealed Law No. 143 of 1958, which granted the minister the authority to issue decisions to seize any property considered necessary to serve the ministry’s mission. The remaining draft laws were referred to the relevant committees for further study.

The session’s agenda included a review of the proceedings of the final session of the first extraordinary term, along with responses from the ministers of education and energy to written questions submitted by Assembly members.

The Assembly also approved a proposal by the executive committee of the Syrian Arab Parliamentary Division to form a delegation to represent the Assembly in the Arab Parliament. The delegation’s members had been selected at a previous meeting.
