Assad's army kills Media activist Trad Zuhouri in Qalamoun

Prominent Media activist Trad al-Zuhouri has been killed due to shrapnel in head during his covering Qalamoun battles on Thursday, activists said.

Al-Zuhouri's colleagues and many rebel commanders have commended his good manners and his brave heart for covering most dangerous battles between Assad’s forces and rebel groups on different battlefields as in Qusayr city (since he was the director of media center), Dumeir, Homs and Qalamoun.

Syria remained the most dangerous place for journalists on the job in 2013, according to an annual report by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ)

29 journalists killed in Syria last year, the number of reporters and broadcasters killed covering the conflict has reached a total of 63, according to the CPJ, about 60 journalists were abducted at least briefly during 2013, with 30 still reported as missing late last year.

There is no documented list for media activists whom have been killed recently by both Assad army and al-Qaeda splinter group The State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) but activists claimed to exceed 25 Media worker and activist since January 2014.

Bashar al-Assad forces backed by Iran proxy Hezbollah militia kept up their shelling of the town of Yabroud and the surrounding Qalamoun region over the last 12 days.

Activists have disputed claims that Yabroud is the “final” rebel-held town in Qalamoun, saying that rebels retain a presence over half a dozen villages in the area. Several thousand people are believed to have fled Yabroud as the onslaught picks up pace.

Syria's nearly three-year conflict began as popular protests against four decades of Assad family rule but changed into armed insurgency under a security force crackdown.

Now the major Arab state is in a full-scale civil war that has killed more than 140,000 people and forced over 6 million - more than a quarter of the population - to flee their homes.
