Pro-Assad militias accuse Hasaka Mayor of 'nepotism'

(Zaman Al Wasl)- A Syrian regime’s top official in Hasaka province has clahsed with pro-Assad National Defense Units and security forces on Saturday over 'nepotism' complaints and mounting corruption in the wheat season as farmers push to sell their crops the regime.

Activist Mouhannad al-Yousef told Zaman al Wasl that the Mayor of Hasaka, Maj. Gen Jayez al-Mousa, tried to bring dozens of grain-laden locomotives owned by his pro-traders who were on the door of the center.

However, the national defense militias refused to enter the locomotives. Then the governor stopped the centre’s movement.

Al-Yousef added that the governor urged the security guard to expel the farmers, drivers and workers from the center and beat them after tension between him and the head of the military security and the commander of the 154th regiment.

The armed militia besieged the center till the Mayor run away.

He pointed out to corruption, bribes and favoritism in Qamishli grain center, which is under the regime’s control. 
The farmer pays high amounts to speed up the marketing process, while traders buy grain from farmers at cheap prices.

The Press Office of Hasaka said that he noticed "some abuses in the commercialization of wheat and barley crops in Qamishli center, he stopped working until the situation is restored and put an end to all manipulating as well as prevent abuses and favoritism.

He admitted that all vehicles in the center are under the supervision, claiming that he seeks to facilitate depending on the role.

According to him, the sub-marketing committee in the province and the police leadership are the only responsible for the commercialization, in reference to the exclusion of regime militias.

According to official figures issued by the Syrian regime, the stolen quantities of wheal is amounted to 240 thousand tons and about 5 million bags were distributed for the purpose of filling the wheat crop, as well as the transfer of 25 billion Syrian pounds ($48,521 million) to branches of the Agricultural Bank from the beginning of marketing until last Thursday.
