(Zaman Al Wasl)- An Arabic mare was fitted with prosthetic limb by local veterinarians in the northern town of Atareb after being wounded in regime shelling three months ago.
The leg of the 4-month-old 'Sham al-Agha' horse was amputated in the regime bombing on the western countryside of Aleppo.
The limb was entirely designed and manufactured locally by the 'Step by Step Centre for Prosthetic Limbs.
According to veterinarians, the application of the prosthetic is not in the best interest of the horse.
The smaller animals, such as dogs and cats, do more favorably with limb amputation because they are able to adjust to using just three legs. With a horse, however, a leg amputation could easily lead to a number of complications, including tendon tears, laminitis and instability.
