ALEPPO (Zaman Alwasl) - Water supply has been resumed to Aleppo in both the rebels and regime’s sides after cut off for 10 days.
Sources in the Sharia Authority reported to Zaman Alwasl that negotiation between FSA battalions especially al-Nusra front and Syrian regime lasted 4 days to reach to the agreement on Tuesday, mediated by “Ahali Initiative” which become the known mediators between the two sides.
A source in the Water company confirmed to Zaman Alwasl that main water supply cut-off was in Solaiman al-Halabi station not al-khafsa, which agreed with Zaman Alwasl previous reports.
The source revealed that agreement had many important points benefit the rebel side of the city and pointed out that water might reach to new areas.
No one knows the agreement details, but sources in al-Nusra front mentioned that it contained new guarantees for keeping the civilians’ areas away from fighting.
Cleaning and sterilizing water will start in the main store besides al-Khafsa and Thishreen stores.

Residents of Aleppo were left without water for 10 days because fighters have cut supplies into rebel and government-held areas. Al-Nusra Front had cut water supplies from a pump distributing to both the rebel-held east and government-held west of Aleppo, justifying that they were unable to cut off water supplies to government areas without also affecting rebel-held neighborhoods.
Water cut-off had forced residents to queue in front of wells to collect water, and they had to unclean water risking a spread of disease.
Aleppo was considered Syria's economic powerhouse, and had almost 2.5 million residents before the war break out in mid 2012, and then it has been divided between government and opposition control.
At least one million people have been displaced from the city since then by fighting and relentless government aerial bombardments of rebel areas.
