War remnants threaten civilian lives in Palestinian Handarat camp- Aleppo: report

The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria said that the unexploded war remnants across the Handarat Camp in northern Aleppo province, present an ongoing threat to the lives of Palestinian refugees, especially the children who are unaware of the dangers of disturbing them.

The UK-based monitoring group reported that grenades, mortars, and suspicious objects were left behind after the armed conflict across a number of streets around the camp, becoming the main reason the displaced are not returning to the camps.

The report mentioned that hundreds of internationally-prohibited cluster grenades have been detected in the camps, due to the onslaughts launched by Syrian and Russian fighter jets.

Camp residents raised concerns about the negligence of authorities to clear explosive remnants and the lack of technical capacity or the resources to remove them safely, urging international communities to lend a hand.

A Palestnian child has died after a cluster munition went off in one of the streets of the camp where he was playing. Volunteers and activists are warning of the dangers of remnants of war on the lives of the residents, spreading awareness among the people and calling for their removal in order to provide a safer and more secure environment to which thousands of displaced could return.

About 110 Palestinian families live in Handarat camp, which lacks basic infrastructure as well as access to water, electricity and sanitation services.
