Exit visa film tries to break Gaza siege

The Palestinian-Syrian director Mohammed Khamis started his propaganda campaign for his long narrative  film "Exit Visa", a work that was carried out in difficult circumstances, not only because it was filmed in Palestine, but also under the spread of the Covid-19.

The film, written by the Palestinian writer "Enas Al-Hujjah," tells the story of a Palestinian family living in the Gaza Strip, whose members are exposed to several situations that reflect their living conditions and the deprivation of many of their rights.

Khamis, who has been living in Sweden for years, revealed to "Zaman Al Wasl" that his new film is based on a true story that took place in Gaza of a child dying due to the delay in his leaving from the besieged city for treatment and his suffering from heart disease.

Khamis pointed out that the film was supervised by producer "Malek Rajab" and was an adventure by all standards in light of the outbreak of the Covid-19, which caused a halt in the film industry throughout the world.

The director indicated that he tried to raise more than one issue in his new film, including the case of the daughter "Amal", who is forced to assume responsibilities for her home and children due to the death of her mother as a result of a shell in the 2014 war in Gaza.

The director referred to the story of Amal’s brother, "Muhammad", who suffers from heart disease, and was unable to complete his education due to poverty and to help his father on the land as a farmer. He talks with his father about when he will leave Gaza for treatment and about the reason for the siege of Gaza for years, indirectly political.

The director added that he wanted, through the film "exit visa," to present non-repeated or brief contents of one of the pain experienced by people of Gaza under the strict siege that their city is undergoing.

The director, coming from "Khan Al-Shih" camp in the Damascus countryside, revealed that he took time to be able to choose talented children with charisma and special performance to embody the reality of the film, including a German child of Palestinian origin who was already living in Gaza and was unable to exit due to the blockade.
