An Israeli aircraft on Saturday has dropped warning leaflets to one of senior Syrian army commanders over his ties withes Lebanese Hezbollah militias and pro-Iran factions in southern Daraa province
The leaflets carried a major threat to Brig. Gen Basil Abu Eid, the Commander of the 112th Brigade stationed in the town of Nawa, northwest of Daraa countryside, one of the regime's largest military formations.
The leaflets have addressed Brigadier General: “Despite our previous warnings, you still allow the party to be present in your area and to engage in your unity and among your elements. This is a lie and hypocrisy.
What are Hezbollah’s achievements in rehabilitating the region and the army? Does exploiting the difficult living conditions of the population and recruiting them to carry out terrorist acts serve the Syrian interests? By terrorist acts that serve Syrian interests?"
The leaflet ended with an ‘advise’: "You, personally, and the army in general are paying the price. It is time for Hezbollah to leave Syria ... It is time for Hezbollah to leave the 112th Brigade ... Be a real Syrian who serves his people and builds his country. Take the right measures before it is too late."
Israel has consistently vowed to prevent its arch-enemy Iran gaining a foothold in Syria, where Tehran has backed Bashar al-Assad throughout the nearly decade-long war.
Late on December, Israel's military, which rarely comments on individual strikes in Syria blamed on its forces, said it had hit about 50 targets in the neighbouring country in 2020, according to AFP.
The annual report released by the Israel Defence Forces did not provide details about the targets hit, but Israel is believed to have launched hundreds of strikes in Syria since the start of the civil war in 2011.
They have targeted regime troops, allied Iranian forces and fighters from the Lebanese group Hezbollah.
