Three tankers loaded with crude oil docked at the port of Baniyas in Tartus province, which would cover the local market’s needs of gasoline, diesel and fuel for nearly two months, State-run Al-Baath newspaper said Wednesday.
The newspaper of the ruling party quoted an official source as saying that more fuel supplies will reach the local market.
Well-informed sources told Eqtsad that the three tankers carry 3 million barrels of crude oil, which is sufficient for about a month specifically.
Experts say most of the imported fuel is coming from Iran.
two weeks ago, the Syrian government imposed a 50% cut in gasoline allocations for the coastal region, Damascus and northern Aleppo provinces on Wednesday.
Pro-regime media outlets media quoted a member of the executive office of the transport sector in Lattakia, Malik al-Khayer that the move came due to the lack of supplies of fuel, adding that the cut decision is temporary until supplies arrive in.
The filling period was set to become every 7 days for public and private cars as of Tuesday morning.
Filling limit has been scheduled at 20 liters every 7 days for private cars and 20 liters every 4 days for public cars (taxis).
The Fuel Committee in Damascus also reduced the quantities of filling gasoline for private and public tourism cars by 50%, after a similar decision was taken in Tartous province.
The regime government has also doubled the public taxi wages, in a new step that burdens the citizens who suffer from a stifling economic crisis since the outbreak of the Syrian conflict ten years ago.
