Syrian man tortured to death by Faylaq al-Sham fighters: activists

A Syrian man was tortured to death by Faylaq al-Sham rebel group, following two hours of his arrest in the town of Jindires in northern Syria, activists said Saturday.

The Military Judiciary in the opposition's Interim Defense Ministry said two members of Faylaq al-Sham were arrested, assuring that all those who were proven to be involved in the incident will be arrested so that they will be tried in a public manner so that they will receive their just punishment, according to the Judiciary statement.

The victim's body showed signs of torture in a painful scene recalled Caesar's torture photos of 11,000 detainees who were tortured and starved to death by the Syrian regime 2012-2013, according to activists.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights documented at least 143 arbitrary detentions in January 2022, including two children, in Syria.

The Paris-based monitoring group said last week that the armed opposition carried out arbitrary detention and kidnapping operations, most of which took place collectively, targeting people coming from regime-controlled areas.

In the opposition-held northern Aleppo province, most of the arrests took place without a judicial warrant or clear charges and without police participation, which is the administrative body authorized to carry out arrests and arrests through the judiciary, SNHR added.

The Syrian conflict has claimed 494,438 lives and has displaced 13,2 million people since it erupted in March 2011 with the brutal repression of anti-regime protests
