Two civilians killed by war remnants in northern Syria

The Syrian Civil Defense announced on Tuesday that two civilians were killed and another was seriously injured as a result of a landmine explosion left behind by the Assad regime in the town of Talhiyah in the eastern Idlib countryside, northwest Syria.

In a separate incident, the White Helmets explained that a civilian was seriously injured while plowing his land in the farms of the village of Afes in the eastern Idlib countryside, as a result of a similar landmine explosion, and its teams transferred him to the hospital to receive treatment.

Four children were also injured, one of them seriously, as a result of a cluster bomb left behind by the war in the vicinity of the Al-Qasimiyah farm near Qubtan Al-Jabal in the western Aleppo countryside, as a result of previous bombing by warplanes affiliated with the Assad regime and Russia.

The White Helmets confirmed that the remnants of war, including mines and cluster bombs planted by the defunct Assad regime, pose a long-term threat to the lives of civilians, causing injuries and physical disabilities, in addition to undermining livelihoods and obstructing the return of civilians to their areas and farms.

The rescue agency appealed to the residents By avoiding villages, towns and lands that were on the contact lines with the Assad regime, and not approaching destroyed homes or former military headquarters, or touching any foreign objects, and reporting them immediately.

The Assad regime and its loyal militias have deliberately planted mines in vital areas where civilians are expected to move, with the aim of inflicting the greatest amount of damage, considering these practices long-term crimes against the Syrian people.
