An Israeli television channel quoted two security sources as saying that the Israeli Ministry of War has begun procedures to organize the entry of workers from Syria to work in the Israeli settlements in the Golan Heights.
The Kan channel said that the plan includes, in its first phase, bringing in dozens of Syrian workers to work in the construction and agriculture sectors inside the Druze villages in the occupied Golan.
The Hebrew channel claimed that this step comes in response to a request submitted by the leaders of the Druze local councils to the Israeli occupation army, as they seek to provide job opportunities for their relatives on the Syrian side after the economic deterioration witnessed by Syria, especially since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
According to reports, the preparations are being led by the Coordinator of the Israeli Government Activities in the Palestinian Territories, "Ghassan Alian", who visited the town of "Majdal Shams" last week to follow up on the developments of the plan and to determine the mechanisms for its implementation.
*Implications and dimensions of the decision
This decision raises questions about its political and economic dimensions, especially since Israel has been trying for years to strengthen its influence in the occupied Syrian Golan through investments and projects targeting the Druze minority there. It also comes at a time when Syria is witnessing a sharp decline in job opportunities, which may push many young people to look for external sources of income, even if they are in areas controlled by Israel.
Observers expected that the Israeli initiative would not be welcomed by the Druze community in Syria, while others considered it an Israeli step to strengthen its control over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
