Syrian security arrests former commander of Hama military airport

The Public Security Directorate arrested pilot Abdul Wahab Othman, commander of the Hama Military Airport under the former regime. Activists accused him of bombing Syrian cities, towns, and villages with barrel bombs, according to activists. Othman hails from the city of Kafranbel, south of Idlib, and deliberately bombed his family's home in his hometown to declare his absolute loyalty to the Assad regime.

While no information has been released regarding the manner or location of his arrest, Othman is currently being investigated by the relevant authorities to determine the extent of his involvement in other crimes, while his legal case is being pursued.

Othman was among 400 pilots Zaman al-Wasl revealed in 2019 who were involved in massacres against Syrians and the destruction of their cities, towns, and villages that had risen up against Assad.

According to circulating information, Major General Pilot Abdul Wahab Othman, from Idlib-Kafranbel, is the deputy commander of the Northern Unified Headquarters, located near the Air Force Roundabout north of Homs city, between the neighborhoods of Al-Bayada, Al-Khalidiya, and Al-Sina'a. This headquarters was considered the second most important center in Syria for managing and monitoring military aviation operations under the former regime.

Othman's name was also included among the ranks of the officers who were promoted, according to the bulletin usually issued at the beginning of July each year, in July 2019.
